During my time in Chicago, I took a lot of public transportation. For the most part, it was a very safe experience, but if you were at the wrong place at the wrong time, it could get a little shady. I was told by many people that if I ever found myself alone on the train and feared for my safety, all I had to do was start talking to myself. That would make me look unstable and imbalanced. In other words, not a great target for anyone with mischief in mind. Talking to yourself may be a great defense mechanism but it’s absolutely no fun when you don’t know you’re doing it.
